Technical Characteristics

DECORSIL by OIKOS is a water repellent, vapour permable coating that offers outstanding resistance. Formulated with quartz powder with a maximum grain size of 0.3 mm, It allows the realisation of the: cloud effect, antique effect, orange peel effect. The product contains siloxanic resins in water dispersion, which guarantee excellent resistance to climatic conditions, leave unaltered the transpiration of the surface, and prevent the development of moulds and algae. Furthermore, the product is resistant to acids and frost thaw cycles. Thanks to its water repellence, DECORSIL keeps masonry dry and improves energy saving; it also assures the best hygienic conditions and house comfort. It can be used as finish coat both on high diffusion plasters and on all wall surfaces. For its special characteristics, the product is recommended above all for prestige buildings and for the refurbishment of old town areas. It has a low odour level, is non inflammable and is friendly to both humans and the environment.

Surface Preparation

The surfaces must be completely dry and mature, new plaster must be mature at least 30 days in order to consent the carbonisation process. Clean the surfaces to be decorated and remove loose or flaking materials. In case of new plasters, make sure the substrate is thoroughly dry. In case of restoration works, rectify large water infiltration or leaks. Allow the wall to dry, then apply the special DECORSIL PRIMER or DECORSIL PRIMER PIGMENTATO by OIKOS. Allow the primer to dry for 12 hours then apply the finishing products.

Application Method

• Allow the primer to dry for 12 hours, then apply two coats of DECORSIL ROMA by OIKOS by roller or brush. Wait 6 hours between coats. Dilute the product with 15 ÷ 20% drinkable water.
• DECORSIL FIRENZE Ancient finish: apply two coats of DECORSIL FIRENZE by OIKOS by using a shorthaired flat brush and work crossing the brush strokes. Wait 6 hours between coats. Dilute the product with 5% drinkable water for both coats.
• DECORSIL FIRENZE Orange peel finish: apply a single coat of DECORSIL FIRENZE by OIKOS not diluted, by using the special medium-grain sponge roller to achieve the desired finish.
• DECORSIL FIRENZE Light and Shade finish: apply one coat of DECORSIL VENEZIA by OIKOS diluted with 5 ÷ 10% drinkable water by using a short-hair flat brush crossing the brush-strokes. Allow 6 hours to dry, then apply a coat of DECORSIL FIRENZE by OIKOS diluted with 5% drinkable water, using a shorthaired flat brush crossing the brush-strokes. Wait 15 ÷ 20 min., then dab the surface with a cloth pad to achieve the desired light and shade contrast.
• Apply DECORSIL VENEZIA following application instructions according to the desired decoration:Troweled finishing: apply two coats of DECORSIL VENEZIA by stainless steel trowel. Wait 7 ÷ 8 hours between coats, then using a plastic trowel polish by sleeking the surface with circular movements. Rustic finishing: apply a single coat of DECORSIL VENEZIA undiluted by stainless steel trowel; then work on using the special honeycomb roller to achieve the desired effect. Light & Shade finishing: apply one coat of DECORSIL VENEZIA diluted with 5 ÷ 10% drinkable water by shorthair flat brush and work crossing the brush strokes. Allow 6 hours to dry and apply the special finish coat of DECORSIL FIRENZE diluted with 5% drinkable water by shorthaired flat brush, crossing the brush-strokes. Wait 15 ÷ 20 min. then dab the surface with a cloth pad spreading the colours to achieve the desired light and shade contrast.

To obtain paint wash effect apply on the dry surface one coat of VELDECOR by OIKOS and work on it with a sponge trowel.

Application tools: Short hair flat brush, medium-grain sponge, cloth pad, plastic trowel, stainless steel trowel

Primer: DECORSIL PRIMER PIGMENTATO, DECORSIL PRIMER by OIKOS.

Application temperature: +5°C ÷ +36°C (relative humidity not higher than 80%)

Drying time - tack free: 2 ÷ 3 h (temperature = +20°C with relative humidity not exceeding 75%)

Drying time - fully cured: 12 ÷ 14 hours (temperature = +20°C with relative humidity not exceeding 75%)

Technical Characteristics: The Product

Specific weight 1.6 kg/l +/- 3% (White) Texture: max= 0.7 mm

pH: 8.5 ÷ 9.5

Viscosity: 37,500 +/-5% CPS Brookfield (RVT 20 r.p.m. at 25°C)

Storage temperature: +2°C ÷ +36°C. Keep away from frost

Fire reaction: None if applied on a non-flammable surface: water based material with a thickness when dry or 0.600 mm.

Water absorption: W24 0.1 kg/m2.h0.5 DIN 52 617 (max. allowed limit 0.5 kg/m2.h0.5 DIN 52 617)

Vapour permeability: Sd 0.19 m (max. allowed limit 2 m DIN 52 615)

Resistance to washing: In compliance to DIN 53 778, resistant at least 1,000 abrasive circles.

Resistance to abrasion: In compliance to DIN 53 778, resistant at least 5,000 abrasive circles.

Toxicological Data: The product is free of heavy metals such as lead or chrome. It does not contain toxic solvents, aromatics or chlorides. There is no risk of any dangerous polymerisation. The product is considered to be a non dangerous substance if used in the technically correct manner. Normal cautionary measures for the handling of water based paints are advised. No special arrangements are required for the storage, movement and transportation of the product; the containers, residue, eventual spilt material should be cleaned up using absorbent inert material such as sand, soil etc. etc. and then disposed of in accordance with the regional and national regulations in force at that time.
